The president of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency President Akufo-Addo has said that the expansion of the Kumasi airportproject is the critical part of government’s vision to expand the frontiers of business and industries to make Ghana an industrial hub to West Africa.
The expansion of the airport will give Kumasi the much needed importance to reinforce its position as the important commercial and transformation center in Ghana and West Africa.
According to the president, the project is estimated at €66,300.000 and expected to be completed within 24 months.
The expansion includes; the extension of the current length of the runway by 319 meters (i.e.1981 meters to 2300 meters) and the construction of new terminal building with capacity to handle 1 million passengers per year.
The project will also stabilize the growth of the country’s industrial and agricultural sector and tourism potential of the Ashanti region. The completion of the project will serve as a keystroke as the kotoka International Airport.
The President confirmed there are other projects on course including the construction of the second face of the Tamale airport, the rehabilitation of the Sunyani airport and Wa airport which has been completed and will soon commence business operations.
