Written by  Jul 04, 2018
The Member of Parliament for Banda constituency, Ahmed Ibrahim. has expressed disgust at the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta for failing to appear before the House whenever he is billed to appear. The legislator who was furious told Rainbow Radio’s parliamentary correspondent, Afia Kwarteng that, it has become usual of the minister to absent himself whenever he is billed to appear before the house. He also lamented over the attempt by some Majority members including Dr. Akoto Osei to apologise on behalf of the minister. ‘’You have accepted to work as Finance Minister but you are always dodging when it is time for you to appear before the house. Since we came to this house, he has never appeared. They are always asking Akoto Osei to apologise and lay his papers for him. The work of the Minister for Finance is important when it comes to the business on the floor of the house. We cannot continue to accept his apologies and if is incapable, he should resign and allow someone to take over.’’ ‘’If are always dodging and the Speaker is always calling on ministers to appear before the House, then it means you don’t have any respect for the speaker. Why is he dodging? He should let us know why he is dodging.’’ Mr. Ahmed raised this concern on the floor of parliament, when the minister for finance who was expected to assist in laying a paper on Commercial Facility Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and Bank Hapoalim B.M. of Israel for an amount of €6,520,000 to finance a turnkey project involving Expansion Works at the University Hospital in Legon, Ghana, failed to appear. Mr.Ofori-Atta, dedicated one of his Deputy ministers, Abena Osei-Asare to represent him in laying of the loan facility. Mr Ahmed Ibrahim added that, he has never seen an absentee minister like the type of Mr Ken Ofori Atta, in all his years in parliament.
