As part of efforts to ensure accountability in the collection of TV license, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will roll up a denominated license coupons next month, the coupons would be available for purchase at various sales points across the country.
This was revealed by the revenue officer in charge of the collection of TV license, Rev. Ebenezer Botchway in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem.
He said the license coupons are in the denominations of 3, 5, 10 and 36 cedis, and as part of their plans the coupons would be given to agents to sell then later return the duplicate coupons to GBC for them to capture it into their payment system.
All agents who sell the coupons will be paid on commission, he added.
Rev. Botchway stressed that, the new mechanism is to allow GBC to be accountable and transparent to Ghanaians.
According to him they cannot afford to allow any leakages or misappropriation of the revenue collected, therefore there is the need for them to take their time in doing things right.
He indicated that GBC has received applications from prospective individuals expressing interest in the sale of the denominated coupons.
Ghanaians are so far paying the TV license and that is very positive, he said.
Rev. Botchway explained further that, GBC is planning to add the telecommunication companies to use their mobile money system as payment point.
Meanwhile they are about to sign an agreement with Ghana Post to use their facilities as payment points.
Currently all payments are done at some selected banks across the country, but payment can also be done online if one has a MasterCard or Visa card.
