National Theatre launches e-ticketing system to mark 25th anniversary

Written by  Jan 04, 2018
The National Theatre of Ghana has launched an e-ticketing system to improve operations as part of its 25th Anniversary celebration. Per the system, patrons of the theatre will now be able to purchase ticket online with specific seat numbers. The Theatre also launched its new website, which allows for e-booking, making it possible for event organisers to book for event space or purchase tickets via online. The Executive Director of the Theatre, Mrs. Amy Appiah-Frimpong, speaking at the launch said, when tickets are bought, the system will show, who and when the purchase was done and when there was a ticket duplication, it would know, who had the false ticket. She said beginning this year, once event organisers make a booking at the theatre, they will be able to make payment at any GCB Bank across the country. Mrs. Appiah-Frimpong said in the next 25 years, “we want to make every citizen feel a part of the National Theatre, regardless of economic problems, educational background and geographic location.” She said the year-long celebration will have performances in the area of dance, drama and music in all the ten regions of the country. The Executive Director said three major productions has been planned by the resident groups; with the first being the ‘Marriage of Anansewa’, which would be presented in Nigeria during March; a dance drama, Agoro, in June and a Symphony collaboration with an internationally acclaimed Baritone from Czech Republic in November. “We will be introducing a monthly drama programme in collaboration with two Idiots production,” Mrs Appiah-Frimpong added. The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Catherine Afeku, commended the Management and Staff of the Theatre for a good job done and urged them to unearth more new talents. “I urge you to unearth more talents, local productions in local dialects. The National Theatre, I trust, will take up this challenge and will continue to work hard to achieve its target,” she said. She appealed to all and sundry to assist the Theatre to present works that highlight the best of the country’s culture. The National Theatre was built by the Chinese Government and offered to the Country as a Gift. It was opened in 1992 and is governed by the National Theatre Law 1991, PNDC Law 259. It has a building area of 11,896 square metres (128,050 square feet), and is sited near the junction of the Independence Avenue and Liberia Road.  The building houses the three resident companies of the National Dance Company, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Theatre Players.
