Gospel musician Sandra Oduro has said being a married woman, a mother and a musician is not an easy task.
In an exclusive interview with GH Entertainment show host Prince Kwesi Dadzie aka Mr. Handsome, the gospel diva who came into the scene some fifteen years ago said, being a mother and a musician comes with a lot of responsibilities.
Comparing motherhood to music, she said, it is extremely difficult to be a mother and do music. The pressure is not the best. You cannot trust another person with the responsibility to manage your home.
Sometimes you have to depend on caretakers to manage your home but that comes with a lot of risks. This is because if you are unable to find someone you can trust, the person will mismanage your home and take your place as a wife.
‘’Being a mother is not an easy task because as a mother, you not just a mother for your children but your husband as well. Sometimes you will be contemplating on whom to leave your children to take of when going for shows. Leaving your children in the care of others is difficult. The person must be trustworthy and God fearing. When you are unable to get such a person, you are doomed. The person may take over your home and manage it in your absence. If you are lucky, the person may do everything a wife does for your husband in your absence. My husband is a man of God and a busy person. I was also a busy person and so, at a point, I had to give up on music and concentrate on managing my home’’ she said.
Asked why has been in hibernation, she answered saying, traveling and managing the family has taken off the scene for a while.
''The stress was more for me. I was also a banker and so I decided to take a break.''
She also told host Prince Kwesi Dadzie that, she did not benefit financially from her musical career.
The musician with over 15 years experience in the industry and more than three albums to her credit said, as a musician, you are entitled to some benefits but I have not benefited from these entitlements. People were cheating me and did not make me benefit from my hard work. Piracy also affected my works.’’
‘’Apart from the fun of music, you have to benefit from it but I did not benefit from music and so I was discouraged at a point,’’ she added.
Sandra Oduro is currently working on her latest song and will release it soon.
