The Ministry of Agric has managed to spray a total 163,597 hectares of farms affected by the fall armyworm invasion with a total recovery of 149,350 hectares.
A total of 14,247 hectares were destroyed in the major season, Press Secretary to the Minister, Ridwan Issah Khalifah has revealed.
In the minor season, he said a total of 337,845 hectares were sprayed with no destruction recorded in that period.
According to him, enough education was done during the period of the minor season and that contributed immensely to the record.
On the cost he said, government allocated Ghc15 million for the fight against the invasion of the armyworm however, the Ministry received a total of GHc 15, 857,280 and they have used almost GHc10 million for purchasing the chemicals to manage the worms.
The production of flyers and other logistics amounted to over GHc4, 857,280, he stated.
On the regional breakdown he said, in the Ashanti region during the major season, the Ministry sprayed over 4,204 acres of land and the areas recovered as part of the spraying, was 38,906 and those destroyed 9,298 and the region was the mostly affected.
In the Brong Ahafo region, a total of 42,716 hectares of land were sprayed with 42,211 saved and 505 destroyed.
A total of 6,169 hectares of land were sprayed in the Central region with 4,795 recovered and 1,364 destroyed.
In the Eastern region, a total of 12,789 hectares were sprayed with a total of 11,199 recovered and 1,590 destroyed.
In the Greater Accra Region, a total of 1,739 hectares were sprayed with 1,676 recovered and 63 hectares destroyed.
The Ministry sprayed a total of 27,490 hectares in the Northern region with 27,025 of hectares recovered and 465 destroyed.
A total of 9,301 hectares were sprayed in the Upper East region with 8,989 recovered and 342 destroyed.
Upper West region had 9,413 hectares sprayed with 9,349 recovered and 64 hectares destroyed.
Only 30 hectares were destroyed in the Volta region with 3,408 sprayed and 3,378 recovered.
Finally, 2,378 hectares were sprayed in the Western region with 1,862 recovered and 526 hectares destroyed.
