The first lady of the republic of Ghana, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo has commissioned the ultra modern new mother and baby unit today [Friday] at Kumasi.
The facility which was completed over a five-month period is made up of a maternity, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.
It comes with a total built area of 2,722 square meters and will allow the staff and patients to have adequate spaces for the different types of procedures.
In her speech, the first lady Mrs. Akufo-Addo reiterated the statement made by her husband President Akufo- Addo that, Ghana should be country beyond aid.
The occasion was graced by the wife of the Asantehene, her Ladyship Julia Osei Tutu II, the Asante regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah, Archbishop Duncan Williams, some ministers of state, MMDCES Aamong others.
The Rebecca Foundation project started after a Joy News documentary revealed in March 2017, shocking rate of mortality at KATH partly due to overcrowding.
The Rebecca Foundation found it pragmatic to build immediately a less costly 10million cedi facility.
