The Commonwealth University of Business, Arts and Technology have conferred on Dr. Henry Lartey, a Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) Honoris Causa.
The honorary was done after Dr. Lartey complied with all the requirements of the faculty of the University.
A citation presented to him at the ceremony read: The United Nations Conference for trade and development (UNCTAD) and the commodities fund made Dr. Henry Lartey. He was invited as an expert in 2002 at Palasis de Nation and also as a Panelist at UNCTAD XI Sao Paulo, Brazil 2004. In addition, they recommended him to present at the agri business Forum 2004 by EMRC (European Market Research Centre).
‘’Lartey and Associates, his own company chose farmers who were too poor to quality for loans through the traditional banking system. The Lartey and Associates model of microfinancing was successfully implemented in Nsawam and Eastern regions to grow Pawpaw and Pineapples bringing relief to small farmers.’’
‘’Lartey and Associates Ltd pays for the Globalgab and organic certification cost of about US$15,000 for all the farmers on their list. The farms were the largest certified organic papaya farms in the world.’’
The citation continued: ‘’The awards to Dr. Lartey is not only a recognition of his creative genius in promoting his concept of microcredit in farming but also testifies to the fact that genuine economic and social development has to grow from below if it is to be accessible for all.
‘’The company is currently building a state of the art factory to produce smoothies, individually quick frozen fruits and vegetables.’’
‘’Henry was named after his maternal Grandfather late Henry Herbert Malm Esq. MBE Assistant Colonial Secretary (Deputy Governor) 1932-1947 Gold Goast…during the colonial rule. Eldest Son of the late veteran Politician Dan Lartey and Sarah Rosseta Lartey (Nee Malm),’’ it added.
He has also been awarded a Master Class Certificate in Business Management and Leadership by the LSG School.
The ceremony was at the African Leadership seminar held in February this year at Djibson Hotel Cotonou, Benin Republic.
