Director of Elections for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has disclosed on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, the National Elections Committee closed filling of nominations on Tuesday but had to consider Dr. Richard Amoako Baah despite filling late.
The reason why the committee considered his late filling was due to an accident he was involved in yesterday, he explained.
Mr. Nimako further disclosed that the committee invited the aspiring chairman and upon some considerations, his forms were accepted.
Out of the 46 forms picked, only 43 submitted their forms.
‘’Forty-two (42) persons submitted their forms but the number shot up to 43. Dr. Richard Amoako Baah could not submit his forms yesterday because he was involved in an accident. The committee considered a number of factors and so we have accepted his forms.’’
One candidate who was aspiring for the Vice Chair position, Mr. Bernard Mensah Akoto Ampaw, could not submit his forms because he had to travel out of the country, he added.
Apart from Mr. Blay, who is aspiring to be the substantive Chairman, four other bigwigs -Alhaji Abubakar Abdul-Rahman aka Alhaji Short, who is immediate past Upper West Regional Chairman of the party; Stephen Ayesu Ntim, a former National Vice Chairman and longstanding contestant for the Chairman position; Dr. Amoako Baah, a lecturer and David Amankwah Boadu – are all eying the post.
The party has rescheduled the delegates’ conference from June 14 to July 6th - 8th.
This new date was contained in a press statement signed by the acting secretary John Boadu.
“This decision was arrived at by the party’s National Steering Committee at its meeting held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Aside the date which has been rescheduled, every other arrangement pertaining to the organization of the Conference including the venue and electoral arrangements, remain unchanged", he said.
The statement also indicated that the postponement was due to the clash with Ramadan, which is likely to be celebrated that day.
