Illegal squatters who have encroached Achimota School land have been given up to Thursday June 14, 2018 to vacate or face eviction.
The Achimota School has been battling with en¬croachment on its lands by private developers, individ¬uals, business owners, churches and, recently, some displaced residents of Old Fadama (Sodom and Gomorrah).
The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North, Mr. Fuseini Issah said, it has become extremely difficult to evict the squatters despite the numerous notifications.
He told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, an attempt was made to evict the encroachers last year but they pleaded for an extension to November 2017 but they have failed to move out.
‘’The area is full of squatters. Crime is increasing on daily basis. The evidence is that, people wake up to see dead bodies on several occasions. We cannot allow this to continue. We want to be proactive. We cannot allow this to continue in an A list school like Achimota. People are putting up structures and when you ask them, they will tell you they bought the space from people. Last year August, we served notice and asked them to move but they requested for more time. The time we gave them has elapsed and they are still here,’’ he said.
The Old Students Association in 2015 petitioned former President John Dramani Mahama and Parliament to intervene.
Some of the encroachers told our reporters that they currently relocating.
‘’Some of the encroachers have started moving out because they have found a new place. Some of us are unable to move because we have not found a place. We want them to give us four more months so we can find a place so we relocate,’’ an encroacher said.
