GRPTU calls on Prez to intervene on their behalf over Railway Evacuation

Written by  Jun 22, 2018
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC has held a press conference in Accra(CMB) expressing their fear in the demolition exercises by Ghana Railway Corporation (GRC) which has created their total evacuation. This exercise is geared towards promoting the railway business. Speaking on Nyankonton mu Nsem this afternoon (Friday), the branch chairman, Atta Frimpong said that, the Ghana Railway Corporation has sold all the lands to private individuals who in turn have constructed stores in which they work. “We have been on this land long before these stores were built. We weeded this land many years ago on which we have been working. As a station, we have 27 lorry stations which makes use of over fifty routes to nine of Ghana’s regions which has contributed immensely to the development of the country”, he stressed. Adding, he said that after some time if there is no response, they will continue to press on because this issue is causing great distress to them. There also a big pipeline which is now leaking as a result of the construction of these stores, he lamented. He therefore pleaded that government should come to their aid to relieve ‘’us of all our problems, he pleaded. Greater Accra Regional Chairman of GPRTU, Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah, has confirmed that the land at Accra(CMB) on which these drivers work is a property of the Ghana Railway Corporation (GRC). Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah said that the management of GRC should have given these drivers an earlier notice since they have been working there with them for a very long period. He added: ‘’we have been there for a very long time. If GRC wishes to use their lands, they could have communicated with us for us to come to a compromise. There was a very big pipeline laid there which serve some parts of Ghana with water and if buildings are now been built there, it will not augur well, he said. Government should come into this issue for us to render good services to Ghanaians, he stressed By: Priscilla Obeng Asantewaa (Intern, Rainbow Radio)
