The Member of Parliament for Bunduri and Deputy Ranking Member, Health Committee, Dr. Robert Kuguanab-Lem, has asked government to disburse monies to the various government hospitals so they embark on expansion projects to enable them accommodate more patients.
According to him, the no bed syndrome which has led to the death of some Ghanaians, should be treated as an emergency situation.
Speaking to the media in parliament, the legislature admonished government not to only concentrate on the NHIS but also see to the ending of no bed syndrome.
The situation is not just about Korle-Bu but all other hospitals across the regions face similar problems, he lamented.
‘’What we have to do as a matter of emergency is to give some resources to all hospitals, starting with the teaching hospitals, regional hospitals and district hospitals. For example, what we need to do is to give Korle-Bu $2 million, Komfo Anokye, $ 2 Million and Tamale Teaching Hospital $2 million for them to expand their emergency services. This is a matter we have to do right away so that, they can improve on their facilities right away. We have to do this before we do long term planning to see how we can solve the problem once and for all,’’ he added.
He said, there is an explosion of ill health in the country but the facilities are not there.
