International Socrates Award winner and CEO of Koans Building Solutions, Mr Kofi Anokye has said the real estate sector is experiencing higher cost of production including cost of fuel, electricity, and other building materials is effecting the real estate sector.
Eventually it is going to have a tearing effect on the government and I feel they have to check their fundamentals well. They have to either check their expenditure or other things pushing these ones upwards. I believe there are some expenditures government can avoid and still run the country and get some pluses.
‘’The real estate is not booming because of the factors of production. The interest rate has reduced to a level but the real estate sector is still saddled with challenges. Ghanaians are unable to purchase houses. That is the true picture. Import duties are still very high unlike the first administration of NPP led by former President Kufour. Kufour declared the golden age of business and so when you were doing business, you will see you are doing business,’’ he stated.
He challenged government to take measures to address the difficulties because the private sector is struggling and crumbling.
He said, although the current administration made an attempt to stabilize the cedi, it is still depreciating against the dollar.
He made the remarks in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
The excessive expenditure of government he lamented leads to high taxes and the private sector is struggling due to high taxes.
Mr Anokye stressed, ''we will keep telling government the truth. We kept warning Mr Mahama and yet he failed to heed to the advice we gave him and that contributed to their defeat. I would continue to advice Nana Addo but he wound't listen that is fine...Once you asked me a question, I will answer.''
