Rawlings, Togbe Afede, some MPs working against Mahama's return-Group

Written by  Aug 08, 2018
A group calling itself Social Democratic Forum (SDF) has called on persons in the Volta working against former President John Dramani Mahama to desist from doing so. The Forum, which is associated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleged that a clandestine Volta conspiracy was made to deny Mr Mahama the opportunity to lead the party in 2016. SDF is also alleging that some stalwarts of the umbrella family connived with some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region to thwart the chances of Mr Mahama. Names of former President Rawlings, Togbe Afede, Richard Quashigah, Fiifi Kwetey, Kwabena Adjei, Obed Asamoah, Asiedu Nketia, Boateng Gyan and many others. The allegation contained in the statement read: ‘’the conspiracy included former President Rawlings whose hatred against JM is public knowledge, prominent chiefs in the Volta region such as Togbe Afede who has been hugely rewarded by the corrupt laden Akufo-Addo government with board chairmanship of NIB, a state bank. The conspiracy included MPs such as Richard Quarshigah, Fiifi Kwetey and party folks such as Kwabena Adjei, Obed Asamoah, Asiedu Nketia, Boateng Gyan…’’ The statement further complained of attempt by some individuals to prevent Mr Mahama from contesting as candidate. ‘’In the last week, we noted with dismay the emergence, once again, of power conscious Volta crooks and their collaborative at Adabraka. They have started an offensive onslaught on the humble personality of H.E John Mahama. The discredited so-called founder set the stage by throwing wild allegations against the much-expected come back of Ghana’s savior, JM into the 2020 race. This has been followed by Victor Gbeho, Ken Dzirasah, Richard Quashigah (whose tenure as propaganda secretary witnessed incompetence). Many Volta chiefs and MPs are still very much active in the plot to fight JM comeback.’’ ‘’We have seriously intercepted these actions as an attack on the North. They have since 1992, pretended to love the North. It must be made clear that you cannot love the North while constantly agonizing the North’s greatest figure in the NDC’s history. Their democratic right to support the failed Alabi project is not the right to attack H.E John Mahama. If H.E John Mahama is a failure or unmarketable, we wonder where we would place Victor Gheho or Ken Dzirasah in the scheme of things. We are appalled by the attitude of the recklessly ambitious Northern politicians for their deafening silence on these unprovoked attacks on JM and the North. There is no neutrality when your home is under attack. We would not exchange a presidential slot for a vice presidential slot. We will not sit and down and watch them to cost us another election,’’ the statement concluded.
