As part of activities to celebrate the 80th birthday of former President John Agyekum,
a ceremonial match would be played to honour him for his instrumental role in Ghana football.
The ceremonial game was launched at his private residence in Dzorwulu on Monday.
The match would be played on 28th October between the two Ghanaian giants, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
In his speech, the former President thanked thank the dignitaries that came to honour him.
"I thank u all for coming to my home to do me this honour. First of all, I must thank the planners who have taken it upon themselves to use this year to plan a whole year celebration of my 80th on our planet and God willing by December 8, I would be 80 years.
He made a profound statement that, this is not partisan politics but promotion of sports and football have become a major vessel for promoting peace on earth."
I don't think there is anything in terms of institutionalized sports to beat football in terms of bringing people together in peace and and happiness. In Ghana, we are also using football to bring people together and that my name, is being linked with this move and I feel in my heart that, the match would be a resounding success, he opined.
