Written by  Aug 25, 2018
A fifty-nine (59) year old fake doctor who has operated not less than twenty-one (21) years has been grabbed by the Kwabenya District Police Command with the support of Medical and Dental Council. Mr. Kenneth Kwame Kwarteng was apprehended during one of his abortion operations on a seventeen (17) year old Senior High School final year student with a seven weeks old pregnancy. Confessing with journalists at his Ashongman Estate Last Stop base Obaahemaah Clinic where he was picked, Mr. Kwarteng who claim to be a trained nurse accepted he has been operating illegally all this years. With no permanent support staff members, he does at least three abortions a year, but with the assistance of six part-time workers. The police C.I.D. led investigative team with representatives of Medical and Dental Council and journalists could not witness any special kind of hospital equipment. Meanwhile, had Register General's certificate dated 23rd June, 2015 and one by Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) to operate a ten (10) bed capacity clinic also date April 2017. Further probing revealed that Mr. Kenneth Kwame Kwarteng started his fake practice at Agbogloshie and later relocated to his current location. With his first family based in abroad, the man currently in police custody lives with his second wife who has given birth not long ago. When asked whether he would perform abortion on his biological seventeen year old daughter for any reason, the fake practitioner said frankly he would not do such in anyway. Dr. Divine Banyubala is the deputy registrar of the Medical and Dental Council. He told the press the council is always on the grounds to ensure living by its core values; proper training and practice of medicine and dental care. Following this, a team of its investigators have always been on the ground and has over the years helped in fishing out perpetrators with K. K. Kwarteng as the latest one. The council's investigative team have monitored his activities for not less than four months and has established the following. There was no practitioner by such name registered on of the council's registers. The man works alone without the assistance of a nurse, a laboratory technician or any auxiliary staff members. What more, he does not keep records of his clients. Dr. Banyubala disclosed a formal complaint was subsequently logged with the police leading to his arrest. The joint police and council team found the suspect operating on the said seventeen year old patient brought there by her mother. She was then arranged for the Legon Hospital where she's currently receiving better treatment at the council's expense whilst the suspect keep assisting the police in further investigations. The council which seek high level medical care and dentistry for the public is grateful and keep asking society aiding it achieve its mandate at all times. By: Daniel Asuku
