Government will by the year 2018 increase the national hospital bed stock by 6000 to improve upon the provision of quality healthcare nationwide.
This was revealed by President Mahama before Parliament during his state of the nation's address.
He said government has invested over 2 billion dollars in health infrastructure alone and it will continue to do so to improve upon delivery, access and quality healthcare to citizens.
President Mahama indicated, the achievement of government in the health sector is tremendous and unprecedented.
According to him, government is and will continue to retool the health sector with the needed equipment and provision of the needed human resource for a better health system in the country.
He listed some infrastructural developments in the health sector including the construction of University hospital at Legon, expansion of Police hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital, a number of 60-bed hospitals being built in some districts. 12-bed intensive care unit has been refurbished and equipped at Korle-Bu and the Volta Regional hospital into a modern teaching hospital to help the University of Health and Allied Science train students.
