Written by  Oct 04, 2015
The Coalition of unpaid nurses and Mid-wives Group-Ghana has with immediate effect declared a nationwide indefinite strike action starting from Monday the 5th October, 2015. This was released in a press statement signed by all their regional coordinators. The Coalition of unpaid nurses and Mid-wives group Ghana compromises of over 7,000 nurses and mid-wives nationwide. It would be recalled that the group on the 1st October, 2015 issued a press statement over their decision to embark on indefinite strike by their members who were affected by unpaid salary arrears which according to them spans between 6-22 months but had to withhold their decision because of several deliberations and interaction with government who promised to pay all their outstanding arrears. The statement said, ‘’after several deliberations and persistent patience to receive these monies failed, the leadership of the Coalition have come to the Cross road where going back to work is an impossibility until all our arrears are paid’’. The statement continued, ‘’we hereby DECLARE A NATIONWIDE INDIFINITE STRIKE from Monday 5th October, 2015’’. The group has also admonished all their members to comply with the directive and should not be intimidated by anyone. The group has also declare their solidarity support to their colleague nurses at the Accra mental hospital who are currently on strike. They have asked them to remain resolute and not to compromise on any promises or whatsoever. The Coalition have also apologized to their cherished patients and their relatives for the inconveniences. ‘’We apologise to our cherished patients and their relatives to accept any inconveniences. We therefore give our word to the general public to put the blame on government for not doing its part for us to find ourselves in this situation’’. The group has promised to go back to work when they receive messages of payment from their banks. ‘’We would swiftly return to work when we receive messages of payment from our banks’’.
