The Majority Leader of the 7th Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has shot down claims that the 8th Parliament is a hung one following the number of seats won by both sides.
The leader noted that persons who have made such arguments are living in a dream world and being speculative.
He said reality check would show them where we are currently as a nation.
The MP, who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, asked the Minority and other persons to wake up from their slumber.
”There is no hung parliament. In the scheme of Parliament arrangements, there is no hung Parliament. There is no hung Parliament in Ghana. There is always a Majority Caucus. By all rules, there are only two Caucuses in the House, Majority, and Minority. Wherever the pendulum swings, Mr. Speaker, that group will constitute the Majority. People should learn the rules of procedure in this House.”
He was reacting to claims by the Minority that it will form the Majority in the 8th Parliament.
The Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu in responding to the presentation of President Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address said Parliament is not almost and they certain that if Techiman South is resolved and added to the NDC, they (NDC) will form a clear Majority.
Meanwhile, the President has described the 2020 polls as free and fair.
“I’m thankful to the Ghanaian people and God that I’ve been given the mandate to lead the country for another four more years…it’s good for the nation that in the end, my opponent, the former President John Mahama chose the legal path instead of the pockets of violence by his party after the election.”
He was also happy that former President John Dramani Mahama has filed a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the results.
“I recognize my main opponent in the election has gone to the Supreme Court to seek their intervention over his concerns on the outcome of the polls.
“It is good for the nation that in the end, he chose the legal path instead of the pockets of violence that attended the immediate aftermath of the elections,” the President told Parliamentarians in last State of the Nation Address for his first term in office.
