Customers receiving bills exceeded free water usage or indebted to GWCL-PRO

February 18, 2021

The Ghana Water Company Limited has stated that consumers who are exceeding the five cubic meters of water would pay for the bills of water they have consumed.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Stanley Martey, persons who are receiving bills for the water usage despite the extension of the free water exceeded the approved usage or owed the Company before the announcement of the free water.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.,5Fm, he stated that the extension of the water became necessary to reduce the continued ravaging impact the Covid 19 pandemic has brought on Ghanaians.

The usage he explained was for domestic consumers, and those who were commercial users were supposed to have reregistered so they could sell and receive compensation.

A cubic meter of water is equivalent to 1,000 metres of water and roughly 13 baths.

However, Mr. Martey said they could be households who may not necessarily use 1,000 litres per day whereas some households irrespective of their number may exceed the cubic metres.

He indicated if consumers have been billed for January, it would be because of their indebtedness before the free water was announced.

Those who have also seen bills this January are t5hose who have exceeded the five cubic metres.

He advised Ghanaians to use their water wisely if they want to fall under the cubic metres announced or be prepared to pay.
