The Human Rights Reporters Ghana has called for an end to violence against women.
Their call follows the two separate stories of two women who have been assaulted to death by their partners.
One Prince Charles Dedjoe, a businessman, is currently standing trial for allegedly killing his wife.
The suspect has been provisionally charged with murder and is to reappear before the court on March 22, 2021.
He was arrested on Sunday, March 7, 2021, for allegedly killing his wife in their residence at East Legon.
It is reported that the businessman assaulted the wife to death.
Also, a young man, Philip Caezar Kumah has allegedly beaten his girlfriend to death at Akatsi North in the Volta region.
According to the Volta Regional Police PRO, Sgt. Prince Dogbatse, the victim Elizabeth Yesutor, was constantly abused by the suspect.
“I had background information on the issue and so I asked the victim to report to the police but that didn’t happen. The gentleman is now in our custody and hopefully, we’ll be going to court today, then we’ll see what happens.
“In one such case, she was hospitalized but after she gained her health back, she went to withdraw the case. There have been various instances where he had abused this lady,” Sgt. Dogbatse said in an interview.
Reacting, HRRG called on the law enforcement agency to deal with the issues and bring justice to the deceased women.
A statement issued by the group said: ”HRRG is aware that legal proceedings are underway thus we are calling on our law enforcement bodies, the police and the judiciary to prosecute and adjudicate fully and fairly on the cases, devoid of any form of prejudice, to ensure, most importantly in the words of Chief Justice Howard that “justice is not only done but is manifestly and undoubtedly seen to be done.”
It extended condolence to the bereaved families saying: ”HRRG is alarmed and very profoundly saddened by the reported demise of Mrs Lillian Dedjoe and Ms Yesutor Elizabeth Akpalu whose husband and boyfriend respectively, allegedly meted out severe assault and battery upon them leading to their unfortunate deaths.
Following these very devastating event, HRRG, wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones of both the late Mrs. Dedjoe and Ms Akpalu.”
