Ghanaian lawyer and former legislator ofGhana’s 7th Parliament Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has clarified that he has not challenged the competence or qualification of Kissi Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor.
The lawyer who has come under criticism over his comments following the nomination of Mr. Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor clarified that he did not challenge the qualification of the nominee.
He said the temptations and risks associated with the Office of Prosecutor are several, and the nominee would find it difficult in working as SP.
He argued that the age difference between the President and the nominee is wide and he [Agyebeng] would find it difficult in pointing out the wrongs of the President.
He said per conventions across the world, the age of the nominee is a barrier that will prevent from function.
”What I said was that common sense,m convention and best practice should guide us in the nomination of the SP. The Office of SP is demanding.”
He said even Martin Amidu, who was the same age as the president, was prevented and frustrated from working as SP.
He told Rainbow Radio’s Kwabena Agyapong that the position is a risky job that needs someone who is further advanced in life to resist any form of temptations due to how complicated the fight against corruption is.
”I pray for Kissi Agyebeng. I wish him well. If he is approved, I wish him well. But how that will impact on the fight against corruption is anyone’s guess,” he added.
”I am not saying Kissi Agyebeng is not qualified by age. I have not said that. I am just saying that it would have been better in our fight against corruption to take a mature mind, a person who can stand his ground against all pressure and temptation. A person who can speak truth to power.
Kissi Agyebeng and Godfred Dame, the Attorney-General are friends. So how do think the relationship between them would be? I don’t know? But they are classmates,” he posited.
He stated he would have exercised discretion in favour of a person who can stand his ground and speak truth to power if he were they Pressure
