Learn from Mills & complete Saglemi Project-Prez told

A lawyer and former legislator, Inusah Fuseini, has reacted to the controversial Saglemi Housing project saying President Nana Akufo-Addo must take a cue from late President Atta-Mills and complete the project.

He suggested for the government to complete the project and also investigate the alleged corruption and deal with it.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Francis Asenso Boakye has stated that the Saglemi housing project is in a poor state due to corruption and lack of proper planning by politicians.

“In doing all that we intend to do, we also believe that there is a huge institutional gap in housing deliberation in this country. I don’t believe in putting housing development in the hands of politicians because I believe that it’s a technical job. The reason why you don’t put housing projects in the hands of politicians is to ensure that we can ensure continuity in addressing housing problems. If you are not lucky and find an unscrupulous politician in office, the end result is what we have at Saglemi.”

“Project failure is what you will experience, and it will not be properly thought through and the implementation will not go well and corruption will be the order of the day. That is all Saglemi is all about.”

Lawyer Fuseini reacting said the government should complete the project and stop politicising the matter.

He said the fact that your predecessor did the same does not mean you should repeat the same.

He recounted how former President John Agtekum Kufour refused to use an aircraft purchased by the late John Rawlings citing, alleged corruption.

He said the former leader refused to use the aircraft until he exchanged it with three aircraft from China.

”that is not leadership. Leadership doesn’t mean that when your predecessor refuses to show leadership, you would also do the same. As we speak, we are servicing the loan. Meanwhile, nobody is taking beneficiary use of the property. So, Nana Akufo-Addo should listen to wisdom and complete the Saglemi Housing project,” he added.

He said: ”I am not saying when someone commits impropriety, you shouldn’t investigate; the project is government property. It is the people property and can be used. People are suffering, workers don’t have any place to stay. The workers who don’t have any place to stay, did they also commit corruption? Why should they suffer for someone’s alleged wrongdoing?”
