49 excavators, 228 changfans destroyed as Military ends Phase II of fight in W & C regions

Military personnel working on ending galamsey have completed phase three Operation Halt II in the Western and Central Regions.

The officers from what this website has gathered have destroyed 49 excavators and 228 “changfans” in total.

The equipment destroyed were alleged used in illegal mini9ng activities.

“On Sunday 16 May 2021, phase three of Operation Halt II in the Western and Central Regions ended. A total of 427 military personnel drawn from all ranks were deployed in the two regions,” a source according to Asaase radio stated.

The operation by the officers was carried out in areas such as Adaboa, Subin and Manso Nkwanta; on River Offin and a 100-metre-wide bank alongside it; the general areas around Adaboa, Obeng and Anwiankwanta; and on River Oda and a 100-metre-wide bank alongside it.

Meanwhile, the officers have started an operation in the Eastern Region.

The men numbering 134 are expected to move to Akim-Oda, Kade, Kyebi, Anyinam and the surrounding areas along River Birim where illegal mining is high.
