Give herbal practitioners money, they can develop Covid-19 vaccines-Prez told

A herbal practitioner Dr. Elijah Mensah Bonsu, has admonished President Akufo-Addo to provide funding for professionals including herbal practitioners, to research and develop a vaccine for the Covid-19 in Ghana.

He said the call by President Akufo-Addo on African leaders to consider ways in developing their own vaccines should not be rhetoric.

He challenged the President to release funds to professionals to kick start the move because herbal practitioners are also capable.

Addressing the 59th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo as member states to contribute to the global discourse on access and availability of vaccines for all the peoples of the world.

He said member states must continue to work on the purchase and production of vaccines in our Region.

”We have to encourage Members of our Community, Nigeria, Senegal, and my own country, Ghana, which is making the effort to produce their own vaccines. We cannot afford to be naked the next time”, he said.

Reacting, Dr. Mensah Bonsu herbal practitioners can also help in achieving this goal.

He posited that herbal practitioners have what it takes to contribute to the successful production of the vaccine but have not been consulted.

He was speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.

”If President Akufo-Addo should give us money, I would assure him that we can help produce vaccines and other herbal remedies that can help deal with Coviod-19”.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in February this year appointed Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng to lead a vaccine development and manufacturing committee in Ghana.

His appointment was in line with President Akufo-Addo’s determination to ensure that vaccines are developed and manufactured in Ghana.
