Private legal practitioner lawyer Adu Tutu Junior has argued that lawyers are at liberty to critic rulings or judgements delivered by judges of our courts.
The lawyer speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm indicated that lawyers should be gagged in expressing their opinions or intimidated.
He quickly added that the judiciary or persons who disagree with these opinions expressed by lawyers on rulings also have the right to seek redress at the General Legal Council.
Reacting to the petition filed against Dr. Dominic Ayine by the Chief Justice His Lordship Anin-Yeboah, without going into the merit of the petition, said criticizing the ruling of judges should not be seen as an attack.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that lawyers must also desist from attacking the judges in a disparaging matter when expressing their views on rulings they have delivered.
He said in expressing an opinion, lawyers must provide reasons why they disagree with rulings and not just make views known.
Lawyer Adu Tutu Junior added that the law prevents lawyers from also making disparaging comments against judges.
He advised lawyers to tread cautiously when criticizing rulings delivered by judges and not attack or insult them.
‘You have every right to make whatever comments you like, but others have every right to seek redress from appropriate authorities when they believe that your comments are disparaging,’ he added.
