Achimota school records 135 cases of the Indian Delta virus

A total of 135 students of Achimota School have tested positive for Covid-19.

Most of the students tested positive with the new Delta Variant, the Ghana Health Service has revealed.

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, who disclosed this explained that the first three cases were detected in some students between June 14 and 16 this year.


The situation he noted led to a mass testing of the students following which it was discovered that 135 students have tested positive for the virus.

According to him, 843 students and teachers were tested as of July 1, 2021.

Out of the 550 samples received, 135 returned positive, he said.

“All 135 cases at the time of diagnosis were either asymptomatic or had very mild to moderate illness. One member of staff is among those affected” he said.

Meanwhile, some 89 students have recovered while 46 of the remaining cases are still active.
