First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo Wednesday, July 21, 2021, handed over a new waiting area for visitors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Expressing joy at the facility, the First recounted how in 2019 she realised the hospital needed a new waiting area for Visitors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
This was after she had commissioned the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, and discovered that visitors and parents of patients at the facility were sitting under trees.
According to her, she felt the hospital needed a decent waiting area for the Emergency wards to provide comfort, safety, peace of mind and protection against adverse weather conditions.
She said ”I expressed my desire to Dr Okoe Boye, who was the Board Chair of Korle Bu at the time, to find a solution. We approached some corporate institutions, including the First Atlantic Bank, to build a waiting area for Korle Bu. Fortunately, our proposal for a waiting area was in line with the Corporate Social objectives of the bank. The Managing Director of the First Atlantic Bank acknowledged the enormous relief that such a project would bring to citizens, who have to wait as their relatives and friends undergo medical care.”
She admonished management to maintain the facility well and entreated visitors to also keep the place clean.
‘Today, we have a beautiful place to comfortably sit a hundred and fifty people, washrooms, as well as banking solutions for those who might require financial services. Indeed this facility will bring a huge relief to visitors, as well as the management of Korle Bu. I charged the Management of Korle Bu to ensure this place is well maintained. I also entreat visitors, who use this waiting area to keep it clean and adhere to the required protocols for the use of this place.”
To the Bank, she said ”Congratulations and thank you First Atlantic Bank. This is your way of showing the human face of your business. It is your way of investing in the people who affect your bottom line. Above all, it is your contribution to the social capital of this country. I also thank the Board and Staff of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for their support during this project. May God bless us all.”
