Private legal practitioner lawyer Kissi Agyebeng has been sworn in as Special Prosecutor.
The short ceremony was held at the Jubilee House today, Thursday, August 5, 2021.
The President, in his address, stated that the Special Prosecutor was qualified for the job, and those who have made claims that he was unqualified, have no basis.
The President described him as an experienced lawyer with several years of experience in criminal law.
He was hopeful the appointee would discharge his duty as required by law.
The appointee in his response described corruption and its related activities as a pandemic, aside from the health pandemic the world has been plagued with.
“Mr President, we are confronted by two pandemics. One is a health crisis and its outlook is very marked up. The other is not a health crisis but it is also a pandemic which is corruption itself and corruption-related activities,” he said.
“The zeal with which your administration has approached the fight in respect of the health crisis are also seen in respect of the other pandemic, which is corruption.”
He pledged to work to “suppress and repress” corruption and make it costly.
“My Office is going to drive it down and repress it to its barest minimum.”
