The Agric Minister, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has said it is a wrong perception that prices of food have increased.
The Minister noted the statistics compiled by his Ministry does not support the assertion that food prices had increased.
Addressing the media over the weekend, the Minister said the complaint that the size of kenkey had reduced only started this year, and the Planting for Food and Jobs, which was introduced some five years ago, had been enormous in stabilising the price of food.
He said there was a drought in the Southern part of Ghana last year, ”a very heavy drought” both in the major and minor seasons in the forests and the Southern parts.
”People forget these things very easily, and that affected supplies”, he added.
The Minister stated that this year, apart from the one month delay in the major season of rains in the South, rains have been excellent.
He also debunked assertions by former President John Dramani Mahama and his opposition that there was going to be famine in Ghana.
He described them as naysayers adding that Ghana is currently experiencing a boom in food production to the extent that if you monitor the Tamale market, the grain market, the prices are tumbling.
