Upper West Akim residents complain of Ghc50 charge for digital addresses, wrong street names, addresses

December 3, 2021

Residents of the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region have raised concerns over the sale of digital address plates in the area.

According to them, the plate is being sold at Ghc50 per household, a situation they claimed was not the best.

The Assembly at a meeting on Thursday, December 2, 2021, placed a ban on the activities of the workers who were fixing the unique addresses on all properties as part of the National Digital Property Address System.

The assembly said the plates were riddled with errors and did not represent the addresses of the households captured.

The plates did not also match the street names in the area.

The decision was taken at the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the third assembly of the Upper West akim District assembly meeting.

The National Digital Property Address System, otherwise known as GhanaPost GPS, is a global addressing system launched in October 2017 by President Akufo-Addo.

The system is to provide effective means of addressing every location and property to facilitate the implementation of key government policies.

The GhanaPost GPS forms part of the government’s agenda to digitize the economy.

The essence of the project is to have a digital database of all properties to assist the government in revenue generation as well as planning for improved service delivery.

The service was executed by Vokacom Limited, in partnership with the Ghana Post Company Limited, with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) hosting the data.
