The Sawla-Tuna Police Commander ASP Degraft Agyei Armah has disclosed that the driver of the VIP Bus which crashed leading to the death of nine persons lost focus because he was driving under stress and was also dosing off.
He said the preliminary investigation also shows that the driver was overspeeding.
He disputed claims that the accident was caused by a pothole on the road.
He told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm that the driver could have avoided the accident if he had adhered to traffic regulation which requires them to avoid overspeeding and rest when tired.
He advised the transport operators who operate long journeys to employ two drivers on a bus to avoid drivers driving under stress and fatigue.
He stressed drivers must rest for about 30 minutes after every 4-hour journey.
The Commander further advised passengers to speak when drivers misbehave on the road.
Nine persons have reportedly died in a fatal accident involving a VIP bus on the Sawla-Wa road in the Savannah Region.
The bus was believed to be traveling from Accra to Wa.
Upon reaching the road between Jindabuo and Kulmasa, a few kilometers into the upper west region, it crashed.
According to some eyewitnesses, the driver was dosing off when the accident occurred.
The car reportedly hit a Dawada tree making the vehicle split into two.
Nine passengers including a toddler are feared dead while several people are injured .
The Sawla-Tuna Police have since taken both the victims and bodies to the Wa Municipal Hospital.
