The Ghana Geological Survey Authority has discovered large quantities of Iron ore deposits in Akokrowa in the Oti Region of Ghana.
The discovery is 55.22 weight percent (fe) and of a higher grade, the state body has explained.
Commenting on the discovery, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon. Samuel A Jinapor said the government would ensure that the commodity found in the area benefits the people.
He was addressing the Chiefs and people of Akokrowa on Tuesday 14th December 2021, adding, the government will provide value addition to the raw commodity.
He said the government would further ensure that the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development work closely with the GGSA and the community to ensure that the full value chain is retained in the region and the country.
He was optimistic that the exploration and the business of the Iron would create jobs and wealth for the people of Oti and the country in general.
In On his part the Omanhene of the Apesokubi Traditional Area Okogyeaman Koram II, assured the Minister that the chiefs and people will support the project to make it a success.
According to him, he would support the GGSA, GIISDEC and government to achieve their goals.
”I will release Lands to expand and push the progress of the work as and when required”.
