The near chaotic situation and disregard for Covid-19 protocols at the scene if not checked could have effects for the persons there, some of the persons said.

Speaking to some of them, they disclosed that they had to come to the office as early as 4 am just to be registered early so they could go back to work.

According to others, they are there to register for the Ghana cards to enable them re-register their Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards registered.

The Ghana card remains the only form of identification for the sim re-registration exercise.

The re-registration of mobile SIM cards across the country started in October last year.

The exercise is expected to last for six months, ending on 31st March 2022.

According to the government, the registration is aimed at riding the country’s cyberspace of fraudsters, monitor and tracking down persons who use their phones for criminal activities.

SIM card users will require the National Identification card also known as Ghana card to be able to register their SIM cards.

Any SIM which is not registered at the end of this exercise will be blocked.

In a related development, several others have besieged telco centres to re-register their SIM cards as the deadline for the exercise approaches in March.
