In December last year, the anti-robbery police unit from the national headquarters shot 5 persons who were suspected to be on a mission to assassinate the chief of Gommoa Fetteh, Nana Abor Atta based on intelligence.

Presenting the facts of the case before the court, police prosecutor Chief Inspector Peter Amponsah disclosed that the two suspects allegedly contracted the assailants and made payment of Ghc40,000 Ghana cedis to them through one Philip Finney who was killed through the gun battle.

Background

The police in December last year foiled an assassination attempt on the Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abor Attah, leaving five out of six suspected assassins dead after an exchange of gunfire with the police.

The gunbattle took place in front of the palace at Gomoa Fetteh in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region.

The deceased persons were identified as persons who were part of some suspected notorious criminals behind several criminal activities in some parts of the country.

The suspects were said to have arrived in a taxi, with registration number GG 3427-21, and were making their way to attack the chief and his head of the family (Abusuapayin) who were in the palace.

But the timely intervention from the police led to the interception of the suspects close to a cemetery near the palace.

One of the suspects allegedly opened fire upon seeing the police vehicle.

The police returned fire, a situation that led to the death of the five of the suspects.

Tow of the suspects escaped through a nearby bush.

A search in the bush led to the arrest of one of the suspects who had been wounded but was pronounced dead at the Police Hospital in Accra.
