Stop disrespecting the Public Accounts Committee-Chair to Health Minister

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, who doubles as Deputy Minority leader James Klutse Avedzi has cautioned the Minister responsible for health Kwaku Agyemang Manu for not respecting the work of the committee.

The Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu was supposed to appear before the committee to account for the money spent by his ministry but failed to do so.

He said the Minister is doing what he stood against as a former committee chair.

”We are going to report on that to the plenary. So Clark, take note that the Minister of Health doesn’t respect the committee. He has a Ministry that has a Minister and two Deputies, and none of them will appear before the committee. He has spent public money; come and account for it. Your name appeared in the report of the Auditor-General which means that there is something wrong, come and tell us what is wrong; you don’t respect the committee.

It is not nice. We are going to report to the plenary for the plenary to take action. We are not doing this job for fun. We have the backing of the constitution. We have the backing of the standing orders of parliament. We report our work to the House for the House to take [a] decision. So please, we are not happy about that.”

The Chief Director got the Ministry, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari.
