Two former cashiers of the Judicial Service who allegedly embezzled a total of GH¢81,796 have been asked by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to report to the clerk of the committee to assist in investigations.
It has emerged that the two former staff of the judicial service, Clemence Animabo and James Twum, failed to lodge into the designated accounts, several sums of money they had collected.
The two were with the Twifo Praso and Wamfie District Magistrate Courts in the Central and Bono regions.
Chairman of the PAC, Dr .James Klutse Avedzi, gave the directive when the Judicial Service appeared before the committee at its sitting at the Parliament House on Sunday to respond to some infections cited against the service in the 2018 Auditor-General’s ( A-G’s) report.
Details available indicate that they have since 2017, gone into hiding.
They allegedly went into hiding after the case was reported to the police by the Judicial Service.
Clemence is alleged to have absconded with GH¢61,759, while James also made away with GH¢20,037.
Responding to some of the questions, the Director of Finance, Mrs. Vera Takyi, told the committee that the service reported the matter to the police after it was detected.
The persons involved were also interdicted but they were able to secure bail.
According to her, out of GH¢64,444.00 received by the cashier at the Wamfie District Magistrate Court from August 31, 2017 , to August 15, 2018, GH¢44,407.00 was deposited with an outstanding balance of GH¢20,037.
Meanwhile, she has told the committee the police was collaborating with them to have the suspects arrested.
