Football administrator Takyi Arhin has described the ongoing probe into Ghana’s abysmal performance at the 2021 AFCON tournament as “political” and “senseless
To him, the exercise is much I do about nothing and a waste of time and resources.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports he noted that we do not have to behave as ignorant persons and look out for scapegoats and make them appear before the committee.
He said we have had a series of committees that investigated the team’s performance in previous years and yet, we did not implement the recommendations from these reports that came out.
The Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports, and Culture on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, began its inquiry into Ghana’s poor performance at the recently ended Afcon in Cameroon.
Ghana finished bottom of Group C while failing to win a single game.
Ghanaians have expressed their displeasure on the issue and demanded sanctions.
The Committee is expected to invite key stakeholders from Ghana’s contingent that represented the nation at the competition.
Representatives from the Ghana Football Association as well as Black Stars captain Andre Ayew are among those to be questioned by the Committee.
But Takyi Arhin told Worlanyo Wallace that the exercise is fruitless and will amount to nothing.
He said Dede Ayew will not waste his time and leave his team and come to Ghana because of the political probe.
“Are we implementing the Justice Dzamefe Committee report? Are we serious as Ghanaians? How to qualify the Black Stars for the World cup should be our prime concern. It doesn’t make sense to invite people before a committee and claim to be probing the issue. This is a political agenda being fueled by some persons”, he said.
