Putin announces he is moving nuclear deterrent to “special alert”

February 27, 2022

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he is moving Russia’s nuclear deterrent to “special alert”.

According to him, the move is a response to what he has described as NATO’s “aggression”.

Putin’s announcement does not mean Russia intends to use the weapons but the US has condemned the move as “unacceptable”.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops are currently in control of Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian government has revealed 4,300 Russians have died in the whole invasion- this has not been verified.

It has also emerged that a delegation from Ukraine are set to meet Russians on Belarus border for talks.

President Vladimir Putin had justified his military operation in Ukraine, claiming it’s intended to protect civilians.

In a televised address, Putin said the action comes in response to threats coming from Ukraine.

According to him, Russia doesn’t have a goal to occupy Ukraine.

Putin said the responsibility for the bloodshed lies with the Ukrainian “regime”.

He further warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to “consequences they have never seen”.

He had also put out three conditions that he said could end the standoff.

He urged Kyiv to renounce its bid to join NATO, to partially demilitarize and to recognize Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
