Don’t reject postings to rural areas-Prez to doctors

President Akufo-Addo has admonished doctors who pistes to rural areas to accept their postings.

The President described as as distressing the refusal of some doctors to accept postings to rural and underserved communities.

He made the remarks at a Public Lecture to commemorate the 60th Anniversary Celebrations of the University of Ghana Medical School.

Speaking at the lecture, the President urged student doctors to follow the footsteps of their forebears by accepting to do their housemanship in such communities.

“We currently do not have the right numbers of doctors, dentists, nurses and health care professionals with right niche and expertise in our regions, districts and deprive communities. Especially for the newly created regions and districts.

“The news of doctors refusing posting to these areas is particularly distressing. I encourage all medical practitioners to follow the worthy examples of your great for bearers.”

Meanwhile, he has also called for the adoption of a curriculum that will ensure then use of modern technology in achieving better results in the field.

The lecture which was addressed by a former Deputy Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah attracted alumni of the school as well as Ministers, Deputy Ministers among others
