Lies, propaganda, misinformation characterised the introduction of E-Levy-Association

April 30, 2022

The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana has asserted that propaganda, lies, and misinformation characterised the introduction of the Electronic Money Transaction Levy (E-Levy).

The Association believes the needless lies that were thrown into the public space contributed to misunderstanding and panic withdrawals after the levy was first introduced.

President of the Association, Charles Addo explained that they will wait till phase one of the implementation and make their comments on the impact.

He said the Association has embarked on public education to demystify the myths surrounding the levy.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5, he maintained that “propaganda, lies, and misinformation were thrown into the public after it was introduced. After the law was passed, people had doubts and we’re withdrawing their money. But through our public education, all these lies have been dispelled”.

It will also not affect transfers between accounts owned by the same person
