‘It is insensitive & unfair for Prez to impose E-Levy on Ghanaians’- CPP

May 4, 2022

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed its disappointment in the government for implementing the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) despite what they have termed economic hardship of Ghanaians.

The party says it was against the levy since, in their view, it will worsen the plight of the people.

The party’s Director of Communications for CPP, Sylvestor Sarpong-Soprano, described the levy as insensitive.

“We feel that it’s one thing creating jobs for Ghanaians and imposing extra taxes on them, and another further burdening them when government has been unable to create enough jobs.”

“Ghanaians are distressed. It is unfair and insensitive of Nana Akufo-Addo to force this cruel tax on us Ghanaians amidst the hardships. Besides, how do we expect to have any feel for Ghanaians? He has no idea what the ordinary Ghanaian is going through as he sits in his bathroom airplane. The CPP is totally against the implementation of the E-Levy.”

The implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) commenced Sunday, May 1, as announced by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The levy has imposed a rate of 1.5% on all electronic transactions above GH¢100.00.
