Committee probing Islamic SHS disturbances to present a report to Parl tomorrow

The Parliamentary select committee on Defense and Interior tasked by the Speaker of Parliament to investigate the protest at the Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi will present its report on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, before the plenary.

The Vice-Chair of the committee and MP for Mfantseman, Ophelia Hayford disclosed that “Monday we are meeting as a committee to deliberate on the issues and to put up our report.”

“So hopefully, on Tuesday we will present our report to the Speaker. All things being equal, if we are able to put it together, we will then present it to Parliament as directed by the Speaker,” she said.

Speaker Alban last week issued a one-week ultimatum to the Defence and Interior Committee for a further probe into the Islamic SHS shooting incident.

“I will direct the Committee on Defence and Interior to take this matter up and report next week. In other words, the committee members should visit the IGP, the regional police commander and the school in question; visit the injured persons and report by Tuesday with the findings and await the final investigations and if there is the need for us to take any further action, we will do that,” the Speaker ordered.

The Speaker’s directive came after the Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak, raised the matter on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, 14 June 2022.
