Labour unions agree on 15% COLA

The government of Ghana has agreed to pay a 15% Cost of Living Allowance to be paid to all public sector workers.

The figure was agreed on after several deliberations between the labour unions and representatives of the government.

The government first proposed 5% and 10% respectively but the labour unions rejected them and insisted on 20%.

The representatives from the government then returned for the third time with a 15% proposal which the unions agreed on.

The agreement was reached at an Emergency Meeting called by the Wages and Salaries Commission at the Ministry of Health Conference Room in Accra today, Thursday.

The 15% COLA payment is taking effect from the month of July.
