Lawyer Obiri Boahen, the deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the party to reconsider converging at one location to organize its annual national delegates conference.
The outspoken lawyer noted that the era where parties bus delegates to a location to elect its national leaders should be a thing of the past.
He told Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the NPP and the NDC should start considering organizing the national executive elections at the constituency level.
In his view, it is a waste of resources for the political parties to organize the delegates’ conferences at a single, location.
He was speaking to Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi at the Accra Sports Stadium where the party is organizing its national delegates conference to elect national officers who would hold office for four years.
Over 6,500 delegates drawn from the 16 regions of Ghana are expected to participate in the election.
A total of 48 aspirants were cleared to participate in the polls but two persons withdrew from the race.
The positions that the candidates are vying for are National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, Women’s Organiser, and Nasara Coordinator.
Two of the cleared candidates subsequently stepped down from the race.
Mr. Peter Mac Manu, Chairman of NPP’s National Elections Committee, disclosed that issues relating to the album to use and proxy voting had been resolved.
“We’ve had a series of meetings [with the candidates] to help them to express their concerns or any misgivings that they have so that we can address them,” Mr. Manu said.
