The Africa School Sanitation Foundation ASSF) has handed over its second renovated toilet facility for Joykol Orphanage at Kasoa in the Central Region today.
The renovation works which cost Gh 7,640 was fully sponsored by Rev. Salomey Afua Owusu Afriyie of Salvation Prayer Missions Worldwide who doubles as a Radio Pastor for Rainbow Radio in Accra.
The entire renovation was completed in four days.
The founder of Joykol Orphanage, Madam Joyce Koshie Lamptey speaking at the handing-over ceremony commended the foundation for the kind gesture.
She noted that the kind gesture has given them some level of excitement since the facility was not in good condition.
She said “the facility was in a deplorable state. It was also a threat to the children we manage at the orphanage. I pray that God will grant you more grace and the strength to embark on more initiatives as you have done for us”.
Rev. Salomey Afua Owusu Afriyie who recently celebrated her 50th birthday admonished the managers of the facility to adopt good maintenance culture to prolong the life span of the facility.
“Africa, we have a problem with maintenance culture But I will encourage the managers of the orphanage to maintain the renovated toilet facility well so it will serve the inmates at the orphanage for w longer period,” she added.
Some of the inmates expressed their gratitude and commended the foundation and the reverend minister for the kind gesture.
It was facilitated and executed by Africa Schools Sanitation Foundation.
On his part, Kwame Tutu, one of the lead campaigners of the foundation indicated that the foundation had adopted a campaign to give deplorable toilet facilities in our schools and communities since the government could not do it all alone.
He explained that as part of efforts to address the lack of decent toilets, urinals and potable water facilities in our schools, the foundation is mobilising resources to build decent toilet facilities and rehabilitate dilapidated ones in deprived schools across the country.
The group, as part of its core values and objectives, will mobilise Ghanaians and other individuals both at home and abroad to raise funds or mobilise resources to build, renovate toilet facilities and provide a befitting general school environment in public schools in Africa with a special emphasis on Ghana.
