Police in the Northern region have granted bail to the TESCON President of the Tamale Technical University.
It would be recalled that the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan was accused by students of Tamale Technical University (TaTU) for allegedly causing the arrest of their colleague, who doubles as President of Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), Sayibu Ibrahim Afa Yaba.
“We were on campus when one police officer led a team to arrest our colleague. From the introduction, we thought it was a joke. Only for him to be handcuffed and sent to the police station”, TaTU SRC President Gafaru Nibras told the media.
According to Master Gafaru, they told the TESCON president’s arrest had to do with a report by one lady that she was attacked by some unknown individuals over her description of the TESCON president’s comment about the minister dress as “nonsense”.
The SRC president further added that the police officers also told him that the arrest also had to do with TESCON president’s comments about the regional minister’s appearance at the airport to receive President Akufo-Addo during his visit for the tour in the region.
“We were asked if it (the arrest) was approximate to speak the way our colleague wrote about the minister…”, he stated.

Meanwhile, supporters of the New Patriotic Party across the various social media platforms have started a crusade seeking justice for their comrade with the hashtag – #FreeOurPresident.
In the said picture, the regional minister is seen wearing slippers with an ash Lacoste shirt, which appeared to have not been ironed, while leading a delegation to receive the president at the Tamale International Airport on Monday, August 8.
He has since been released and sent back to campus.
