It was time for the gov’t to assess its policies & determine their efficacy- Economist

A Chartered economist says it would be wise for our leaders to evaluate the key policies introduced by the government to measure their effectiveness.

According to Mr. Emmanuel Amoah Darkwah, we cannot manage policies without gauging their effectiveness.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he questioned, “We should ask ourselves whether the import amount of food has decreased as compared to now since we started the painting for food and jobs.

“What is the benefit of the policies if we are unable to do this kind of measurement?

What figures exist to demonstrate if our import levels fell and our export levels rose as a result of the one district, one factory addition since we began, he continued.

What records exist to show that our import levels have reduced and our export levels have improved, he continued, and what has been the advantage of the one district, one factory addition since we started?”

The chartered economist said if we are not able to link it to these outcomes, then what would be the benefits of the policies.

“If you claim to have implemented the one district one factory, what is the outcome of it, if you claim to have implemented the planting for food and jobs, what is the outcome of it? These are long-term measures that should be sustained to cushion our currency against the major currencies.”

He argued that you should question yourself if you implement policies as a government to address issues but the issues persist even after the policies are in place.
