President Akufo-Addo has reiterated that his administration is working around the clock to ensure a stable economy.
According to him, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ghana had one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.
However, the ravages of the pandemic worsened by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia have left serious implications for the world including Ghana.
He said the war led to rising fuel costs, food prices, high inflation rates and widespread business failure.
According to him, he was fully aware that these are difficult times for us in Ghana and for most people in the world.
However, just as I said recently, the Akufo-Addo government has not thrown its hands up in despair. We are determined to bring relief to the Ghanaian people and return the economy to the high rate of growth that characterised the management of our economy in the three years preceding the Covid outbreak in 2020″.
The approach of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is an important step in the short run,” he assured.
He made the remarks on Thursday, 18th August 2022, when delivered an address at the opening of the 12th Biennial and 50th Golden Conference of the Methodist Church of Ghana.
At the event, the President opined that the commemoration of fifty (50) years of independence from the British Church is obviously a worthwhile celebration, especially as it acknowledges that the influence and growth of the Church has increased exponentially, and enabled Ghanaian Methodism to make its own distinctive contribution to the worldwide Methodist movement.
“The contribution of the Methodist Church to education, healthcare, social welfare and the financial development of Ghana continues to merit the unalloyed gratitude of the Ghanaian people. The collaboration of the State and Church, in mutual respect and in the promotion of religious liberty, in both colonial and post-colonial times, has been an essential feature of Ghanaian governance, which has inured very much to the benefit of the Ghanaian people,” suggested.
