On the issue of nurses, the minister indicated that in 2016, the region had 5,936 nurses.

However, the figure has increased to 9,645 nurses, an increase by 3,709 representing about 62%.

For midwives, the figure was 1,131 in 2016 but has increased to 3,114 with a difference of 1,983 representing 175%.

Simon Osei Mensah added that unlike in the past when the region was the worst in terms of health facilities, the situation has changed.

He said most of the indicators the region fell short of are within comfort levels within the targets under the NPP administration.

The doctor to population ratio he said was 1:13,798 but now at 1:5,529 but the target is 1:7,500.

“So if you look at this, we are comfortably within the target.”
